When I was about seven years old , I was part of a tradition that held what they called a May procession,we dressed in our Sunday best and marched from the school to the church all in line and quiet as children could be. I do not remember the actual event but all these forty five years later I remember one of the leaders of this event giving me a little card that she wrote a message that has stuck with me all these years.I think the upbringing I had, the faith that was developed in me within my family and the message that was on that card helped form who I am and the place I find myself in now as a Pastor to a community of believers.
It was not until I was in my thirties that I really thought I would some day be a "preacher" but the spark and desire has been there for a long time.I often fall back on the first part of 2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the Word " It is an easy verse to remember but sometimes an easy one to over look but it has become the leading edge of my life.
In this weeks passage Acts 9: I think about the same thing in Peters call to return from Lydda to Joppa,While he lived in Lydda her "went here and there among them" I know just waht he was doing and I know just how he felt, I am 100% sure his calling to preach the word was the leading edge of his life to. I know we are not all called to stand in the public arena and proclame the word as a preacher but we are all called to share the Word in our daily walk, as we " [go] here and there among them"
It does not need to be preaching from the top of a soap box on the corner or behind a pulpit, it need only be the way we live our life. Let you light shine Matthew 5:16 not for your {my} glory but to give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Try it this week, let your light shine.
